The IntraLase® laser is one of the latest breakthroughs in LASIK technology.
Dr. Woolfson, who has been an FDA clinical investigator, evaluated the clinical outcomes and results and after exhaustive research is proud to bring the FDA approved advanced technology to Woolfson Eye Institute. IntraLase® technology provides for greater precision, safety and predictability.
IntraLase® is an extremely advanced laser.
All-Laser LASIK with IntraLase® uses lasers to create the corneal flap and perform the vision correction procedure. With conventional LASIK, the first step (creating the corneal flap) was done with a device called a microkeratome. Though the microkeratome method is still a widely used and approved method, the IntraLase® laser is documented to be safer because it uses a precise computer-controlled beam of light to create the flap.
LASIK with this new technology is now the most minimally invasive, most sophisticated approach and allows patients who previously were not good candidates for LASIK because of corneal or other vision issues, to now enjoy the freedom from glasses and contacts with all laser LASIK.
IntraLase® - How it Work
1. A silent beam of cool laser light passes through the cornea, creating a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the cornea’s surface.
2. These bubbles then stack thus creating a flap.
3. After the flap is created, Dr. Woolfson gently lifts it and uses the excimer laser to correct the vision.
Computer-controlled and surgeon-operated, the Intralase laser is 100 times more accurate than previous methods employed to create the corneal flap. Because the computer-controlled Intralase laser has the ability to establish precise dimensions of the corneal flap, it is now possible to treat many patients who were once ineligible for the procedure.
IntraLase® - Benefits
All-Laser LASIK with IntraLase® has many advantages over the microkeratome approach:
1. Better results with fewer complications such as "dry eye," "night glare" and "halos"
2. Increased patient confidence
3. Increased precision and safety
4. Endorsed by NASA and all branches of the U.S. Military
5. Fewer retreatments necessary
6. Favored technology by LASIK surgeons
IntraLase® - Is it for me?
While the standard microkeratome approach is still a viable option and many patients continue to undergo it, Woolfson Eye Institute feels that the IntraLase® option provides for a more precise, less invasive, and safer LASIK procedure.
"Going to Woolfson for my intraocular lens implants was a completely relaxing experience. Not only are they present in the community but their kind staff is unmatched by any other ophthalmology institute I have visited within the last 45 years. Dr. Hays and his staff have that human touch, so you leave feeling good and not just like another patient. Great results, great staff, great nurses, and great doctors."
