Common Visual Problems

If you wear corrective lenses, you may have one of the following common refractive problems:

  • Myopia
  • Hyperopia
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia

Scroll down for more information about each condition...

Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Myopia occurs when parallel rays are focused in front of the retina. Objects are only clear when they are near the eye.

Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

(mouse over to see correction)

Hyperopia occurs when parallel rays are focused behind the retina. Distant objects being seen more sharply than closer ones.

Astigmatism (Oval Shaped Cornea)

Astigmatism occurs when parallel rays from an external source do not converge on a single focal point on the retina.

Presbyopia

Begins to occur in your 40’s and is caused by the loss of lens elasticity in your eye and LASIK is not a treatment option.
