Greg D. Lewen, MD
Dr. Lewen is a fellowship-trained Oculoplastic Surgeon who specializes in cosmetic & reconstructive surgery of the eyelids & upper face, orbital diseases, and diseases of the nasolacrimal system. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science Degree before attending The Chicago Medical School. Before graduating in the top of his class, he was selected to complete a Pathology Honors Program in conjunction with the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. After medical school, Dr. Lewen completed a transitional internship combining medicine and surgical rotations at the West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park, IL. He then completed his residency in general ophthalmology at North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System Department of Ophthalmology where he additionally spent much of his time working in facilities such as Queens County Hospital and Jamaica Hospital. He was selected as Chief Resident in his final year of residency. Following residency, Dr. Lewen pursued a unique fellowship opportunity in Oculoplastic Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston with the Richard S. Ruiz, M.D. Department of Ophthalmology. There, he split his time equally working with Dr. Marc R. Criden and Dr. Marc N. Longo. While at the University affiliate Memorial Hermann Hospital, Dr. Lewen was intricately involved in the management and surgical reconstruction of a majority of facial trauma patients at the busiest trauma center in the nation. Dr. Lewen also spent a significant amount of time at the county LBJ Hospital where he worked to train the resident physicians in Oculoplastic surgery. While not at the University hospitals, Dr. Lewen trained under Dr. Marc N. Longo in the private practice of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons of Texas, LLC. It was here that he learned the art of cosmetic upper facial surgery by training in such procedures as Botox and injectable facial fillers, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy, microdermabrasion, cosmetic skin care, chemical peeling, laser resurfacing, cosmetic blepharoplasty of upper and lower eyelids, brow lifting, and midface lifting. Additionally, Dr. Lewen has attended advanced cadaver courses in orbital and facial dissection and endoscopic facial surgery, and has participated in an externship in dermatologic lasers/IPL treatments with Dr. Jay Burns’ practice at Epicentre Park Lane in Dallas, TX. He regularly attends other advanced technique and scientific meetings around the country to stay abreast of the most current trends in Oculoplastic and cosmetic upper facial surgery. Born in Chicago, but raised just outside of New York City, Dr. Lewen grew up as the son of an Ophthalmologist. In his free time, Dr. Lewen enjoys weight training and jogging, music production, painting, traveling, football, and basketball. He is also learning to play the piano. |
